Sandwell College

In November 2024, EvaBuild completed the groundworks on a project for Sandwell College, carrying out works for our client Pickerings Hire Ltd.  

Prior to the project commencing, EvaBuild completed various site investigations including a WAC test, desktop mains utility search, topographic utility survey and plate bearing test. 

Work started on site by completing an extensive site strip and reduce level dig due to the large cross fall on site. This was followed by standard pad foundations and building piers to suit site levels, ranging from 220mm high up to 1300mm high.  

Drainage was completed to the building footprint to include foul drainage system for the toilets, kitchen and so on. 4 nr attenuation tanks were then fitted between the foundations. Ducts were installed for all services, with additional ducts installed for future developments elsewhere on the site. 

Finally, before install, a cast in situ concrete retaining wall was constructed to the northern half of the site, to aid the site levels and provide level access to all doors. 

Once modular install had been completed by our client Pickerings Hire Ltd, EvaBuild undertook various tarmacking and brickworks. Tarmac was laid surrounding the perimeter of the unit to establish pathways around the building before ramps and handrails were installed as well as tarmacking the roadway up the site following completion of drainage connections and fire hydrant installation. 

EvaBuild worked closely with our client Pickerings Hire Ltd throughout the project to ensure timely completion of each stage, allowing us to deliver the project on time and on budget. The project kicked off at the beginning of August with completion in November. EvaBuild returned to site post completion to carry out further variations.

• Site investigations: WAC test, desktop mains utility search, topographic utility survey, plate bearing test
• Pad foundations & Piers
• Storm and Foul drainage including 3m deep connections and attenuation tanks
• Perimeter skirting to new modular unit  
• Service trenching for water, electric and data.   
• Construct new tarmac area to building perimeter and roadway.  
• Supply and installation of kerbing  
• Creation of cast in situ concrete retaining wall and cavity filled blockwork wall.
• Constructed and installed brickwork landings, steps and ramps in multiple places.
• Installation of handrails and ramp structure to the front of modular unit.
